John G. Plumides, built the firm around the cornerstone of prompt personal service and skilled, aggressive legal representation. John attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for undergraduate and law school. He began practicing law in August 1953. From 1953 to 1955, he served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. In 1956, he founded the Plumides Law firm, originally located in the historic Law Building on 730 East Trade Street. The Plumides Law Office, which is now known as Plumides Romano and Johnson P.C.

Gregory John Plumides was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. He graduated from Charlotte Country Day School, attended the University of Georgia, and went on to receive his Juris Doctorate Law Degree from The Cumberland School of Law at Sanford University. The Plumides Law Office, which is now known as Plumides Romano and Johnson P.C., was originally founded by Gregory’s father, John G. Plumides, over 65 years ago. Gregory first began working for the firm at the age of 16.

Michael Romano attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and went on to receive his Juris Doctorate Law Degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law. Upon graduating from Law School, Michael began practicing as an associate at Family Law Associates located in the historic Charlotte National Building, which was originally the First National Bank which opened in 1924. Michael became a managing partner at Family Law Associates 2 years after joining the firm.

Richard practiced as a mental health therapist for 13 years before receiving his Juris Doctorate Law Degree from Rutgers University Law School. After Law school he clerked for the Honorable Raymond T. Hayser of the Superior Court of New Jersey. Following his clerkship, he moved to Charlotte and practiced as an associate with Shapack & Shapack, PA from 2002 to 2008 before deciding to practice as a solo practitioner.

In 2015, Michael Romano and Richard Johnson merged with Plumides Law, which is now known as Plumides, Romano & Johnson, PC. Managing partners, Gregory, Michael and Richard have expanded the firms areas of practice, adding partners and associates. They have continued representing individuals and businesses in the areas of family law and divorce, criminal, DUI/DWI, traffic violations and personal injury.

Our firm and attorneys continue the tradition in providing a personal solution in every case and are committed to helping clients get back to a normal life.

Plumides Law Firm
John Plumides began practicing law in August 1953 and formed the Plumides Law Firm in 1956, located in the historic Law Building which set next the 4th Mecklenburg County Courthouse. The Plumides Law firm is known as Plumides, Romano & Johnson, PC today.

President of the American Hellenic Progressive Association
John served as president of the American Hellenic Progressive Association, the largest Greek American Organization in the world. He became the youngest Supreme President in AHEPA history at the age of 36 in 1963. During his time with the AHEPA he worked vigorously on the Cypress conflict having met and worked with Presidents Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, and Bush.

In 1964, he was chosen by President Lyndon B. Johnson to fly to Greece on Air Force One along with Lady Bird Johnson, President Harry S. Truman and Archbishop Lakovos to be part of the US delegation personally representing President Lyndon B. Johnson at the funeral of King Paul of Greece. Harry S. John Plumides Passed Away on Sunday, May 15, 2005
Mr. Plumides, age 78, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2005. He youngest son, Gregory practices law in the same office. One of his proudest moments as an attorney occurred in April of 2003 when he was featured by the Mecklenburg County Bar as one of the "Heroes of Our Bar" and in that same year was recognized for 50 years of practice by the North Carolina Bar Association. During his career, he won numerous Court of Appeals cases, which changed both civil and criminal law in North Carolina, including one case that went to the United States Supreme Court.

Ted" Stephen Shapack passed on Thursday, January 19, 2023.
Ted practiced law in Charlotte for 36 years, 25 as a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law. He joined Plumides, Romano & Johnson, PC in 2020 as Of Counsel. Ted genuinely liked helping clients (and a family) obtain just results. His sharp and witty humor will be missed by all.

1st Mecklenburg County Courthouse built in 1766
The courthouse was on the corner of Trade and Tryon Streets in Charlotte, NC. It was built on ten-foot tall brick pillars. The tradition of raising the courthouse was borrowed from England.

The second court house at Trade and Tryon streets allowed the judges bench to have full view of the the whipping post, pillory, and stocks that stood on the street outside the courthouse.

It was a brick structure with four large columns across the front and and elegant, flowing double staircase in the portico rising to the second floor and the first running water facility in Charlotte.

The Fourth Mecklenburg County Courthouse a was located on the corner of Trade and Tryon streets. The courthouse was completed after the Civil War at a cost of $50,000.

The first Plumides Law office opened their doors in 1956 and was located in the Law Building on 730 East Trade street, which was next to the 4th Mecklenburg County Courthouse from 1927 to 1977.

The Courthouse was located at 700 East Trade street and cost of 1 million dollars. It served as the United States Post Office and Courthouse. Today it is known as The Charles R. Jonas Federal Building.

6th Mecklenburg County Courthouse opened in 1989
The Sixth Mecklenburg County Courthouse opened at 800 East Fourth Street and served as the courthouse up to 2007. It now serves at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center.

Mecklenburg Courthouse History
There are 35 courtrooms which include the District Criminal Court, the Superior Criminal Courts, Civil Court, Family and Juvenile Court courtrooms of the 26th Judicial District.

First Charlotte National Bank began in 1885
Originally Heath Brothers private bank, it became the city's 4th national bank and moved from the Independence building into its newly completed building at the corner of S. Tryon and Fourth Streets in 1919.

Merges took place with Charlotte Trust Co. and Southern Loan Co. and in 1919 Wachovia Bank & Trust bought them. Michael Romano's first office, Family Law Associates was in the Charlotte National Bank Building.
